Nothign special: I discovered link files can be added to groups, if you create a group with a link file in an in place family an save it (I think I saw this trick on your blog a while ago) then you'll have it :)
that's what I thought too. Once you load the family into a project the RVT content tend to disappear anyway :) need to find out which category stays visible and can be used to retrieve "host" geometry.
